Kaunakakai, Molokai

Kaunakakai, located on the island of Molokai, is a special experience that lives up to its reputation, "The Friendly Isle". It is the traditional birthplace of the hula. A historic walk tour of Kaunakakai Town is designed to help you appreciate the charm and sense of history Molokai offers. You're sure to encounter a friendly face and a shaka hand wave as you crass Ala Malama Street while shopping in a variety of stores that feature Molokai's best, including Molokai's white bread, taro chips, poi, honey and coffee.

Kaunakakai is home base of day trips when traveling to Papohaku Beach, Waikolu Preserve, Molokai Ranch Wildlife Park, Halawa Valley and Kalaupapa Historic Park. Molokai's visitors are rewarded with scenic wonders and a peaceful rural countryside.

The Tri-Isle Main Street Resource Center, having rendered great assistance in the formation of the original program on Molokai and supplying a wealth of professional resources in planning, program education and implementation of the 1989-2003 project involvement and accomplishments as listed below.

In October 2003, a new fledgling “Molokai Island Main Street” entity was established. This organization is in no way affiliated with our Tri-Isle Main Street network of towns. Tri Isle Main Street Resource Center program mandate continues a connection to Kaunakakai, Molokai via its Molokai Main Street Committee which has an affiliate program status. We are available to work collaboratively with the new entity should they request assistance and agree to adhere to Tri-Isle Main Street Program guidelines.

The Tri-Isle Main Street Resource Center is the primary contact for 1989-2003 County and State supported project explanations and clarifications which were initiatives supported by the Tri-Isle Main street Resource Center and its team of professionals. Any entity on Molokai that is currently requesting local program information, technical resource assistance or details on small town revitalization will receive our prompt attention.
